A smaller budget explains some limitations. It does not explain why so little of this works.

• Bandai Namco with another flopper from a guaranteed IP
• Nioh 3 - a shameless corporate copy-paste job

A sensible budget spent on the bits players touch.

• Jagged Alliance 3 review: Mercenaries, mayhem and too much admin
• Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia: 50 clicks before you get to a battle

The detail, performances and sheer amount of work on screen make the budget easy to believe.

Hundreds of people, years of work, enormous budget. This is what all of that produced?

• Sony finally got Kojima back to espionage, then cancelled it while its first-party strategy falls apart
• Another decade, another Halo: Combat Evolved

They added another A before checking whether they had made a decent game.

• I finally played the 'AAAA' Game

The game is collapsing with impeccable comic timing.

Costs a fortune. Looks like it came free with a magazine.

Calling it Eurojank explains why people tolerate the problems. The controls still need fixing.

• Gothic 1 Remake: Eurojank is not a feature

Movement, combat, menus. Whichever bit I touch, something behaves strangely.

• Gothic 1 Remake: Eurojank is not a feature
• I finally played the 'AAAA' Game

I cannot reliably do the things required to progress. We are well past calling this a quirk.

Clumsy as hell in places, but there is far too much to enjoy here to write it off.

• Sacred 2 Remaster: Nostalgic without the nostalgia

You can see where they ran out of money. I still wanted to see what they had made next.

• Revisiting Aliens: Fireteam Elite ahead of the sequel

A small budget only excuses so much. The basics still need to work.

• Colony Ship: consequence without curiosity
• 9 Kings short review: A restrictive early access mess that barely justifies half price

Years of development and that much money. How is this all they have to show for it?

Clearly made with very little money. Worth bearing in mind when looking at what they managed.

• Ninja Gaiden 4: Competently stylish, yet unfinished and low budget
• John Carpenter's Toxic Commando Review - A.K.A WWZ 2

A tiny team attempting something far bigger than they can comfortably make. I want to see them pull it off.

• Colony Ship: consequence without curiosity

The campaign made this look enormous. Playing it makes you wonder where the development budget went.
