The review

I had low expectations after the katsu curry, but Wasabi's Sweet Chilli Chicken home bento managed to sink even lower. Setting you back nearly £5 at Tesco, this meal is a complete rip-off for the slop you get inside.

Once again, we have the baffling choice of long-grain rice, which just feels wrong. The chicken itself was okay, I guess. It wasn't bad, but the "lightly battered" coating promised on the box was a lie. It was just soft and soggy, having soaked up all the sauce. There was absolutely zero crispiness.

But the real criminal here is the sauce. The box claims it's "sweet & spicy" with a "medium" heat level. That's another lie. There is no spice whatsoever. Instead, you get a sickeningly sweet and salty goo that's barely even sour. It's completely one-dimensional and unpleasant.

Honestly, it all clicked when I looked at the nutritional information. The insane levels of sugar (27.5g) and salt (nearly 3g) explain exactly why the sauce tastes so foul. It's a sugar and salt bomb disguised as a meal, but hey, you get a big filling meal!

Avoid this one at all costs. It's expensive, the textures are all wrong, and the sauce is just disgustingly sweet. You're better off getting a cheap supermarket branded sweet and sour chicken, at least it would be cheaper.
