Tesco Zingy Chicken Strips

My Experience

Frozen breaded chicken strips remind me of when Iceland first started these trends years ago, so I decided to give Tesco's version a go when it was on sale. For a simple breaded chicken product, my expectations were naturally measured.

I cooked the strips in an air fryer and they turned out crispy, with enough residual oil in the breading for a satisfying bite. The "zingy" flavour is accurately advertised. A light spiciness is present from the first bite and lingers through the aftertaste, making the flavour decent enough that dips are not really required.

The issues with this product are the ones common to most ultra-processed foods. The list of concerns grows with the inclusion of palm oil in the ingredients. When combined with the fact that the chicken is sourced from Thailand, you have a triple whammy of drawbacks.

They are pretty much something to be enjoyed occasionally and best consumed without thinking too much about how they are made or where the ingredients come from. While the taste delivers, it is certainly not a good option from a health or eco perspective.
