My Experience
Frozen flavoured chicken is usually a gamble, but this is a surprisingly decent option. Birds Eye has managed an impressive 88% actual chicken content here, and it really shows. They cook down to a dark, sticky finish, rendering the fat out beautifully without leaving a greasy mess on your plate.
Taste and texture:
The bite is where these wings win. You get proper firm meat with a really nice crunchy, fatty edge. The lemon and herb notes do come through, though they are definitely on the subtle side. Honestly, that works fine. The chicken itself is genuinely nice enough to have its own flavour without needing an overpowering sauce to hide behind.
Ingredients and nutrition:
The macros are highly respectable for a frozen product. Despite sugar being high up on the ingredient list to help crisp the skin, your actual consumption is incredibly low at just 0.7g per serving. The salt is surprisingly low too. You get 10g of fat per serving, which is entirely expected when you leave the skin on for maximum crunch. Overall, it is a very clean profile.
Value for money:
A single box usually sets you back about £4.50. However, Tesco often runs a deal offering two for £5.50. At that price point, it is a completely fair deal for an easy fakeaway.
