My Experience

These oaty, soy-based meal bars were a pleasant surprise for the most part. Despite looking a bit crumbly, they are actually firm and hold together quite well after each bite. All the bars in the range contain soy protein crispies, which provide a nice crunchy contrast, and surprisingly, they don't feel dry once you start chewing.

Here's my breakdown of the flavours from the variety box.

Cherry (5/5 stars) My clear favourite was the Cherry. It’s really well balanced between the sweetness from its freeze-dried cherry bits and a pleasant tartness. It's also the only bar in the pack with noticeable pieces of real fruit, making it feel the most thoughtfully designed.

Lemon Pie (4/5 stars) The Lemon Pie was also very well done. It has a good mix of tartness and sweetness, so it doesn't just taste like a generic lemon flavouring. The taste did get a bit fatiguing towards the end of the bar, but it was enjoyable overall.

Vanilla (4/5 stars) Vanilla also gets a solid rating. It's just a simple, inoffensive vanilla. There's nothing particularly noteworthy about the flavour, but that feels intentional. It does its job without trying to be anything special.

Chocolate and Choco & Coco (3/5 stars) I’m giving both the Chocolate and the Choco & Coco bars 3 stars. They were both quite generic and tasted too similar to one another to stand out, but were otherwise fine. No real problems with either.

Caramel Sea Salt (1/5 stars) My least enjoyed flavour was the Caramel Sea Salt, which is surprising given it's listed as the most popular on their site. This was the only bar I genuinely had trouble eating, and I only managed to finish half of it. The sea salt acts as an enhancer that makes the caramel flavour disgustingly one-dimensional and sweet.

Unlike the Cherry bar, which has a higher sugar content that's naturally balanced by the tartness of real fruit, this was just a completely overpowering sweetness. It gets a 1-star rating from me.

💭 Final Thoughts

As a whole, the Plenny Bar variety box gets 4 out of 5 stars. Considering the price and the wide variety you get to sample, it's a great way to find the flavours that work for you.
