Where to Find

Jimmy Joy.

My Experience

Having tried my fair share of ready-to-drink (RTD) meal replacements from brands like Bol, Huel, yfood, and Arla, I was interested to see how Jimmy Joy's version would compare. The first thing you notice is the size. At 330ml, a Plenny Drink is smaller than its main competitors. This compact format makes sense for its 20g protein serving and is likely a factor in its lower cost per meal.

Vanilla

The ready-to-drink Vanilla Plenny Drink was, for me, exactly middle-of-the-road.

Its best feature is the texture, which is decent and has a good, milkshake-like thickness. Itโ€™s very smooth and consistent.

The flavour, however, is just okay. The vanilla taste is very light, and while it's tame and inoffensive, the underlying taste of the soya protein is immediately noticeable and prominent. Itโ€™s not a bad drink by any means, but itโ€™s not particularly enjoyable either.

It's a perfectly functional and convenient product, but I'd give it 3 out of 5 stars. Exactly "mid," as they say.

Choco

The Chocolate Plenny Drink shares the same thick, smooth, and consistent texture as the vanilla version.

However, the flavour works much better in this case. The cocoa taste is very subtle, but it combines well with the drink's thickness and the underlying soya notes. The result is a pleasant, inoffensive chocolate flavour that is easy to drink.

Most important is that there's just enough sweetness to lift the cocoa and make it feel more genuinely chocolaty. It's a simple but effective flavour that complements the base drink, making it a solid 4 stars for me.

๐Ÿ’ญ Final Thoughts

Jimmy Joy has absolutely nailed the texture of their Plenny Drinks. For me, it's the second-best RTD shake I've tried, just behind yfood in terms of smoothness and consistency.

The main drawback, however, is the lack of variety. With only Vanilla and Chocolate available, the flavour range is as limited as Arla's, a brand that is much newer to the market.

Despite this, the flavours themselves are generally inoffensive, and considering the excellent texture, nutritional content, and affordable price, the Plenny Drinks are a very solid offering. I'll give the current v2.1 flavours 4 stars.
